About
The Master of Financial Economics (MFE) is a world-class limited-enrollment professional program offered by the University of Toronto’s Department of Economics in collaboration with the Rotman School of Management. It provides a broad understanding of financial theory and the economics framework upon which that theory is based. Students are equipped with the knowledge and tools required to build successful careers in finance through both the classroom and work experience in the financial services sector.

Berkowitz Lecture Series
The 2024 Annual Berkowitz Lecture, Government Debt and Inflation, was presented by Nobel Prize winning Professor Christopher A. Sims of Princeton University.
Christopher Sims is John J. F. Sherrerd ’52 University Professor of Economics. He has been a faculty member at Princeton since 1999. Sims is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Together with Thomas Sargent, he won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2011. The award cited their “empirical research on cause and effect in the macroeconomy”.
The Berkowitz Lecture Series is presented by the Master of Financial Economics (MFE) Program in memory of Michael Berkowitz (1946 – 2004), former Department of Economics Chair and founder of the Master of Financial Economics program.
