University of Toronto’s Master of Financial Economics Program

The Master of Financial Economics (MFE) is a world-class limited-enrollment professional program offered by the University of Toronto’s Department of Economics in collaboration with the Rotman School of Management. It provides a broad understanding of financial theory and the economics framework upon which that theory is based. Students are equipped with the knowledge and tools required to build successful careers in finance through both the classroom and work experience in the financial services sector.

News

  • The 2023 Annual Berkowitz Lecture, Debt and Interest Rates, will be delivered by Professor Atif Mian of Princeton University the John H. Laporte, Jr. Class of 1967 Professor of Economics, Public Policy and Finance, Director of the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and co-founder of the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP), a non-profit research institute dedicated to economic research, teaching and innovation.

    Professor Mian holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT. Prior to joining Princeton in 2012 he taught at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Professor Mian’s work studies the connections between finance and the macro economy, and has been published in various academic journals. He is also the author of the critically acclaimed book, House of Debt, with Amir Sufi.

    The Berkowitz Lecture Series is presented by the Master of Financial Economics (MFE) Program in memory of Michael Berkowitz (1946 – 2004), former Department of Economics Chair and founder of the Master of Financial Economics program.
