Education and Career Pathways in Economics

Considering a career in Economics? Join us for a virtual panel discussion to hear from professionals working in the field of economics, as they shed light on the rewarding career opportunities. Professionals will offer insights into what a career in economics really looks like, share their own personal career journeys, discuss industry trends and opportunities in the field, and offer advice on how to succeed in the world of economics.

About the Speakers

Natasha Apollonova is a co-founder of Sigma Helix – a boutique management consulting firm that specializes in providing policy, strategy, government relations and economic development services to start-ups, membership-based organizations, government and private sector. She brings 20 years of operations and strategic planning experience. Natasha has conducted numerous consultations of varying complexity, including developing and facilitating workshops and leading the development of strategy frameworks for Ontario provincial and national campaigns. Over the past 10 years, she held progressively senior policy and advocacy roles with the Toronto Region Board of Trade, Canada’s largest local Chamber of Commerce. She also spent another decade consulting at BDO, Deloitte, IHS Markit and TD Economics. Natasha holds a Masters in Business Economics from Wilfrid Laurier university, a BA in Economics from Western university and a Local Economic Development Certificate from Ryerson University.

Tony D’Avanzo is a Manager for Enterprise Risk Analytics and Decision Support at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). He brings approximately 15 years of analytical and strategic planning experience, specializing in economic forecasting and economic impact analysis. Prior to joining WSIB, he was with the Ontario Ministry of Finance, providing economic forecasts and impact analysis for the Province of Ontario. Tony holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Toronto and a BA in Economics from York University.

Diana Petramala is senior economist at the Centre for Urban Research and Land Development where she conducts research on real estate and urban policy issues in Toronto. Diana started her career as a macro economist at TD Bank, where she developed the bank’s real estate economic research. Diana holds a Masters in Economics and BA in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University.
