Synopsis: The Bank of Canada engaged leading researchers to design a digital currency that, like a traditional banknote, would be widely accessible, secure and denominated in Canadian dollars. The Bank engaged three independent project teams to conduct exploratory design work. Our expert researchers will come together to discuss their design proposals and debate the risks and benefits of each proposal. The following three proposals were released by the Bank of Canada on February 11, 2021. The Bank will use these reports to inform its thinking and advance public conversation on a central bank digital currency design.
- University of Calgary
- McGill University
- University of Toronto and York University (joint submission)
